We are all on our own unique journey in the pursuit of
a higher level of fitness, better health and life. It is not an easy journey,
but it's worth it. CrossFit requires hard work, sweat, sometimes blood,
discipline, and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, sometimes WAY
outside. The CrossFit journey is filled with challenges, obstacles, and
sometimes even setbacks. And although everyone's path is different, it is not a
solo endeavor. We are in the pursuit of fitness as a team, a family. Like a team,
when a person is knocked down, the group responds by supporting them,
encouraging them to get up or, helping them up, if needed. Equally as
important, when someone succeeds, their accomplishments are enjoyed and
celebrated by everyone. To that end, every month, CROSSFIT FULL THROTTLE will
recognize one member as the Athlete of the Month.
More than a popularity contest or
having the fastest WOD times, the Athlete of the Month embodies the TRUE spirit
of CrossFit. They have made large strides in their individual pursuit of a
higher level of fitness. The always encourage their fellow athletes and never
back away from a challenge or difficulty. Their resiliency, positive attitude
and personal development inspires us all.

Age? 30 something
Where did you grow up?
Chillicothe, IL. Small town a couple of hours south of Chicago. Our bowling alley was called the Chilli Bowl. No, I'm not kidding.

When did you become a member at CrossFit Full Throttle? September 2014
What do you do when you are not at CrossFit Full Throttle? (occupation, hobbies, etc.). I'm a nurse at TMC in the quality department. When I'm not working or at CrossFit I do Spartan and other obstacle course races. I love to be outdoors so we try to hike as much as we can.
How did you find out about CrossFit? A friend of ours who does races with us told us it's good training!
When did you realize CrossFit is right for you? Pretty much day 1. I love the people first and foremost. But I also like that I don't have to plan my workouts. I just show up and do what I'm told. Easy peasy. Well, okay, maybe not EASY...
What is your favorite WOD/movement? Rope climbs. Mostly because I couldn't do them at all in the Spartan races until I came to CrossFit and learned how to do them. So now that's 30 less burpees I have to do in the races, which is awesome! I also like that people at the races see a girl coming up to the ropes and assume that I can't do it. The look of surprise on their faces when they see that I can is pretty cool.
What is your least favorite WOD/movement? Wall Ball shots. I suck at them. I have a hard time getting into a good rhythm.
What would your perfect WOD look like? Hmmm, that's a tough one. How about: 5 rounds for time: 400m sandbag run, 30 goblet squats (53/35), 1 rope assent.
What is one thing you have done at CrossFit Full Throttle that you never thought you would do? Pull ups. I am still not great at them but I can bang out a few, which is more than I ever thought possible when I first started.
What motivates you during a CrossFit WOD? My fellow CrossFitters. I love seeing people hit a PR or do Rx for the first time. It makes me want to push harder. Also, my husband. He puts his mind to something and doesn't give up until he gets it done. Very inspiring.
What is something about yourself that we might not know? I love all things weather related, especially thunderstorms and tornadoes. I would love to go on a tornado chase for my 40th birthday.
What advice would you give to someone just getting started with CrossFit? Don't be intimidated. You CAN do it. Scale until you don't have to anymore. And wear shin guards when doing box jumps! ;)
